3.6.1 HP PolyServe Matrix Server Administration Guide (T5392-96018, August 2008)
Chapter 13: Configure Event Notifiers and View Events 156
When an event message is generated, it is written immediately to the
Windows event log on the server where the condition occurred.
The message is also sent to the Matrix Server mxlogd process, which
takes these actions:
• Sends the message to the event notifier services configured on the
server. If the message has been selected to trigger a notifier service, the
appropriate action will take place (send an SNMP trap, send email, or
run a script).
• Sends the message to all servers in the matrix. The servers, including
the server where the event occurred, copy the message into their own
matrix logs.
If the mxlogd process was not running when the event occurred, there
will be a delay in transmitting the message to the event notifier services
and to the servers in the matrix.
View Event Logs
The matrix log is not intended to be read directly. Instead, use the Matrix
Event Viewer or the command-line tools provided with Matrix Server.
The Matrix Event Viewer, available on the PolyServe Management
Console, shows the messages in the matrix log on a particular server. The
command-line tools can display the entire matrix log for a server or only
selected events.
You can also view the matrix events written to the Windows event log by
using the Windows Event Viewer.
For more detailed information about alerts and other important
messages, see the PolyServe Matrix Server Event Notification Guide.
Event Notifier Services
You can configure the event notifier services to take specific actions when
selected events occur. The event notifier services are:
• SNMP Notifier Service. This service sends SNMP notifications, or
traps, to the configured SNMP targets when the selected events occur.
