Upgrade Considerations
Several product changes in Matrix Server 3.6.0 and MxDB for SQL Server
3.6.0 affect the upgrade procedure. Be sure to review the following
information before starting the upgrade.
Upgrade All Servers As Quickly As Possible
It is important to upgrade all nodes in the matrix within a short time
frame. We do not recommend running the matrix for an extended period
of time with only some of the nodes upgraded to 3.6.0. This release
introduces a new configuration data repository and a new logging facility
that do not become fully functional until all nodes are upgraded. If the
matrix is only partially upgraded, alerts raised by nodes running 3.6 will
be improperly logged by nodes running 3.4. Also, until the entire matrix
is upgraded, many services that are run on 3.6 nodes must be run as local
system administrator.
Matrix Server Changes
You should be aware of the following changes:
• Concatenated dynamic volumes. If your matrix configuration includes
concatenated volumes, we recommend that you recreate them after
completing the Matrix Server upgrade. (The volumes can continue to
be concatenated when they are recreated.) The volume disaster
recovery feature cannot be used with a concatenated dynamic volume
that has not been recreated. Striped dynamic volumes are
automatically upgraded to use the new feature during the 3.6
upgrade.
• Notifiers. The built-in notifiers provided with previous releases of
Matrix Server are no longer supported. Existing notifiers will continue
to function until the last server is upgraded. At that point, the notifiers
will be deleted from the configuration. If you are currently using
notifiers, be sure to back up your notifier scripts. After the upgrade is
complete, you will need to recreate the notifiers.
• The stand-alone PolyServe Management Console provided with the
3.2 and 3.4 releases cannot be used to access a node running 3.6.0. You
will need to upgrade the stand-alone console after the Matrix Server
