Database Operations
Database Administration changes slightly when a database is monitored
by MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. If a database fails the monitor probe, the database
will be restarted. Therefore, if a DBA connects to a database through
SQL*Plus or Enterprise Manager and shuts the database down, it will be
restarted by MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. For this reason, the GUI supports the
following operations:
• Starting or stopping a Virtual Oracle Service
• Rehosting a database
• Adding or removing nodes
• Using Maintenance Mode
• Deleting a Virtual Oracle Service
Start or Stop a Virtual Oracle Service
The appropriate way to start or shut down a High Availability database
through the MxDB-Oracle-HiAv GUI is to use the Start Database or Stop
Database button. Shutting down a Virtual Oracle Service is also done
through the GUI.
When stopping a Virtual Oracle Service, the database is shut down on the
node on which it is executing. When starting a Virtual Oracle Service, the
database will be started on the Primary node provided that the server is
healthy.
The following series of screens show stopping the PROD Virtual Oracle
Service and then restarting it. Notice the status bar indicating the task
being performed.
