Upgrade Matrix Software and Install a New
OS
This procedure is intended for sites that will be doing a fresh installation
of the operating system during the upgrade to the 3.5.1 version of Matrix
Server and related products. Note the following:
• The operating system architecture must be the same before and after
the upgrade (either 32-bit or 64-bit). If you plan to upgrade from a 32-
bit operating system to a 64-bit operating system, you will need to
perform a double rolling upgrade as described in the next chapter.
• Sites currently running SLES9 with Matrix Server and MxFS-Linux
3.1.2 can move to RHEL4 running Matrix Server and MxFS-Linux
3.5.1.
• Moving from RHEL4 to SLES9 is not supported.
To perform the upgrade, complete the following steps.
NOTE: Upgrade the server with the highest IP address first. Then
continue to upgrade the servers in descending order of IP address,
with the lowest numbered server being upgraded last.
1. Disable the server on the Management Console. (Select the server,
right-click, and select Disable.)
2. Stop Matrix Server on the server:
# /etc/init.d/pmxs stop
3. Back up the Matrix Server configuration as described under “Back Up
and Restore the Matrix Configuration” on page 3.
4. Perform a fresh installation of the operating system:
• RHEL4 systems: Follow the steps in Appendix A to install the new
operating system. Then install the appropriate PolyServe binary
kernel. Run this command:
# rpm -ihv <kernelname>.rpm
