3.5.1 Matrix Server Installation Guide (June 2008)

Appendix A: Install the RHEL4 Operating System 43
Installation Procedure
1. Install the Operating System
The operating system must be installed on each server that will be in a
matrix. When you perform the installation, do not place any operating-
system files on the SAN disks. To ensure that files are not installed on
these disks, you can either unplug the HBA card from the FC switch or
unplug the SAN connection before starting the installation. After booting
the server on Red Hat Linux, plug the HBA card back into the FC switch
or restore the SAN connection.
NOTE: The default Red Hat installation configures firewall rules that
prevent the correct operation of Matrix Server. PolyServe
recommends that you either select the “No firewall rules” option,
or select “Custom” and then ensure that the service ports required
by Matrix Server are open. See the Administration Guide for more
information about these ports.
Additional Required RHEL4 Packages
Matrix Server requires that the following packages be installed:
selinux-policy-targeted-sources-1.17.<vers>-<build>.noarch.rpm.
Matrix Server modifies SELinux to allow PSFS filesystems to be
mounted. (See “Workaround for SELinux (RHEL4 Only)” on page 40
for details.) The selinux package is needed to allow Matrix Server to
make the necessary changes.
net-snmp-5.0.8.<vers>.x86_64.rpm (or later).
You can install these packages directly from the RHEL4 distribution
media. The net-snmp package can also be installed via a Package
Management tool of your choice.
RHEL4 Packages Needed for Source Kernel Installation
If you will be building the PolyServe kernel from source, you will need to
install the following packages. (You can skip this step if you will be
installing a PolyServe binary kernel.)
binutils glibc-headers
•cpp •glibc-kernheaders
