3.5.1 Matrix Server Installation Guide (June 2008)

Chapter 2: Install Matrix Server and MxFS-Linux 14
5. Install a Binary Kernel (RHEL4 Only)
Matrix Server provides several RHEL4 binary kernels that include the
PolyServe patches. Select one of these kernels to install on the server. To
install the kernel, run the following command:
# rpm -ihv <kernelname>.rpm
After installing the RPM, verify the bootloader. Check the file /boot/grub/
menu.1st and verify that the default is set to the PolyServe kernel.
If you need to build a custom kernel from source, see Appendix C for
more information.
6. Install the iSCSI Initiator (iSCSI Configurations
Only)
iSCSI configurations are supported only on the SLES9 operating system.
Install the iSCSI Initiator on each server according to the product
documentation. Be sure to configure the Initiator to start automatically on
boot and stop on shutdown. This can be done by editing the iscsi init
scripts with the chkconfig(8) command. Also verify that the initiator has
logged into the iSCSI targets.
The PolyServe Hardware and Software Compatibility Guide lists the
supported iSCSI storage and software.
7. Install Matrix Server
Install the following software from the product CD or the location where
you have downloaded the software. You will need to install the software
on each server that will be in the matrix.
Install Matrix Server:
# rpm -i <mountpoint>/pmxs-3.5.1-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm
Install the Management Console and mx utility:
# rpm -i <mountpoint>/mxconsole-3.5.1-<xxxx>.<arch>.rpm
