mxperfd. Gathers performance data from files in the /proc filesystem for
use by various system components.
PanPulse. Selects and monitors the network to be used for the
administrative network, verifies that all hosts in the matrix can
communicate with each other, and detects any communication problems.
pswebsvr. The embedded web server daemon used by the Management
Console and the mx utility.
SANPulse. Provides the matrix infrastructure for management of the
SAN. SANPulse coordinates filesystem mounts, unmounts, and crash
recovery operations.
SCL. Manages shared storage devices. The SCL has two primary
responsibilities: assigning device names to shared disks when they are
imported into the matrix, and enabling or disabling a server’s access to
shared storage devices.
SDMP. Arbitrates and ensures that only one matrix has access to shared
SAN devices. If a problem causes a matrix to split into two or more
network partitions, the SMDP process protects filesystem integrity by
ensuring that only one of the network partitions has access to the SAN.
Matrix Server includes the following drivers:
psd. Provides matrix-wide consistent device names among all servers.
psv. Used by the Matrix Volume Manager, which creates, extends,
recreates, or destroys dynamic volumes.
Shared SAN Devices
Before a SAN disk can be used, you will need to import it into the matrix.
This step gives Matrix Server complete and exclusive control over access
to the disk. During the import, the disk is given a unique global device
name. The servers in the matrix use this name when they need to access
the disk.
