Configure Domain Controller
DNS Host (A) Records
This appendix describes how to configure Windows Server 2003 Domain
Controller DNS Host (A) records for reliable name resolution of virtual IP
addresses with CIFS.
It also describes configuration for Windows 2000 Server Active Directory
environments.
Configuration for Windows Server 2003
Although CIFS will dynamically register Host (A) DNS records for any
new virtual IP addresses added to the matrix, it is recommended that you
manually configure a static Host (A) record for all virtual IP addresses.
This step increases the reliablility of DNS name resolution and prevents
dynamic host records from being deleted when a virtualized service is
removed or rehosted.
To perform the configuration, complete these steps:
1. From the authoritative DNS server for the domain, open the DNS
Management MMC snap-in (Start > Run > dnsmgmt.msc).
2. Under Forward Lookup Zones, select the zone where the resource
record should reside.
3. Add a new host record (right-click and select New Host (A)...).
