When a device monitor detects a failure, Matrix Server attempts to fail
over the active virtual hosts associated with that monitor. By default, all
virtual hosts on the servers used with the device monitor are dependent
on the device monitor. However, you can specify that only certain virtual
hosts be dependent on the device monitor.
For example, if you are creating a
SHARED_FILEYSTEM monitor to check
access to a SAN partition containing a PSFS filesystem, select the virtual
hosts associated with applications that access data on that PSFS
filesystem.
As another example, you might have a
DISK monitor for a disk containing
Web and FTP files. If the disk fails, you want Matrix Server to fail over the
virtual hosts for these services. The server might also provide mail
service; however, the virtual host for this service is not dependent on the
disk and should not fail over if the disk fails.
To specify virtual hosts from the command line, use this option:
--vhosts <vhost1>,<vhost2>,...
Servers for Device Monitors
The Servers tab allows you to select the servers on which the device
monitor will be configured. You can also set some options related to the
monitor probe operation and failover.
