5. Run mkinitrd If Necessary
If you edited the /etc/sysconfig/kernel file in the previous step, you will
need to run mkinitrd to create a new initrd image with the appropriate
drivers.
1. Check the /boot directory for an initrd image for the kernel you just
installed. Remove the image if it exists in the directory.
2. Run the following command from the /usr/src/linux directory:
# mkinitrd
For more information about this command, see the mkinitrd(8) man
page.
6. Reboot and Verify the Kernel Configuration
Reboot the operating system and then verify that the kernel is built and
configured correctly.
