1. Install the Operating System
The operating system must be installed on each server that will be in a
matrix. When you perform the installation, do not place any operating-
system files on the SAN disks. To ensure that files are not installed on
these disks, you can either unplug the HBA card from the FC switch or
unplug the SAN connection before starting the installation. After booting
the server on Red Hat Linux, plug the HBA card back into the FC switch
or restore the SAN connection.
NOTE: The default Red Hat installation configures firewall rules that
prevent the correct operation of Matrix Server. PolyServe
recommends that you either select the “No firewall rules” option,
or select “Custom” and then ensure that the service ports required
by Matrix Server are open. See the PolyServe Matrix Server
Administration Guide for more information about the service ports
used by Matrix Server.
In addition to the server installation, you should also install the following
packages, which are needed to build the kernel and install kernel patches.
Matrix Server also requires that the following packages be installed.
• selinux-policy-targeted-sources
•procmail
Matrix Server modifies SELinux to allow PSFS filesystems to be mounted.
(See “Workaround for SELinux” on page 66 for details.) The selinux
package is needed to allow Matrix Server to make the necessary changes.
• binutils • glibc-devel
•cpp •glibc-kernheaders
•gcc •patch
