• The servers in the matrix can be running different versions of the same
operating system type (for example, SLES9 SP2 and SP3), as long as
the above rules are met.
• If you will be using a Matrix Server Solution Pack, it must be installed
on all nodes in the matrix.
Supported Operating System and Kernels
The supported operating systems and kernels are as follows. See the
PolyServe Hardware and Software Compatibility Guide for any updates to the
list of supported kernels. .
Back Up the Existing Matrix
Before starting the upgrade, we strongly recommend that you back up
your existing matrix:
•Back up /var/polyserve and /etc/polyserve on each server. (If you are
upgrading from 3.1.0 or 3.1.1, back up /var/opt/polyserve and
/etc/opt/polyserve.) It is important to preserve the original matrix
configuration in case you need to back out of the upgrade. You will
also need to use the backup files if you do a fresh install of the
operating system instead of an upgrade.
You will need to create separate tar files for /var/polyserve and
/etc/polyserve (or /var/opt/polyserve and /etc/opt/polyserve) using tar -cf to
preserve the permissions on the files. Be sure to copy the tar files to a
secure location such as another server.
