The following utility is useful for determining whether a matrix node can
communicate with the FibreChannel switch. The command displays the
name service entries of the WWPN and the Fabric IDs of the switch. It
may take approximately five or six seconds for the output to be
displayed.
PSANinfo -c <snmp community string> <IP address of FC switch>
Default VSAN Is Disabled on Cisco MDS FC Switch
If you are using a Cisco MDS FibreChannel switch with firmware version
2.1 or later, you may see the alerts such as the following on the PolyServe
Management Console:
FenceAgent <switch_name>: no response to queries from <node_name>
You might also see additional logging in psSAN.log:
Transient Error: fabric.c@1119 FABRIC Switch
<switch_name> SNMP request 160, status 6
These messages occur because the default VSAN (VSAN 1) is disabled,
which causes fcFeFabricName (FA-MIB defined) to be unassigned (all
zeros). Currently Matrix Server uses the OID assignment for
fcFeFabricName to probe connected FC switches and will return the
above error messages if it is unable to determine a value for
fcFeFabricName.
These alerts can be quiesed by enabling the default VSAN (VSAN 1).
