Multiple Oracle Homes

The GUI and CLI can perform operations on any Oracle Home of either

Oracle9i or Oracle10g. The oracle user can login and execute the GUI and

select an Oracle9i or Oracle10g home to perform operations on without

care for environment variables. Likewise, with the mxdb command, the

-d and -h options can be used to operate upon any database in the system

as long as the user executing the command is in the dba group.

Additional Monitoring Capabilities

The PolyServe Management Console can also be used by Database

Administrators to view the Virtual Oracle Service status. The System

Administrator will need to use the mxpasswd command to add the DBA

to the system. The following example grants access for monitoring to the

user oracle with a password of oracle:

# /opt/polyserve/bin/mxpasswd

mxpasswd> {oracle} {oracle}

Password added for user oracle.

When the account has been set up, the DBA can access the Management

Console. Issue the mxconsole command to start the Console and then

complete the Matrix Server Login window. For example:

When the Management Console appears, you can view the following:

• Select the Virtual Hosts tab to see the cluster-wide Virtual Oracle

Servers. Click on the Services icon under the Virtual Oracle Server to

see the node states.

• Select the Applications tab to see each Virtual Oracle Service and the

host on which it is active.
