Database Operations
Database Administration changes slightly when a database is monitored
by MxDB-Oracle-HiAv. If a database fails the monitor probe, the database
will be restarted. Therefore, if a DBA connects to a database through
SQL*Plus or Enterprise Manager and shuts the database down, it will be
restarted by the Solution Pack. For this reason, the GUI supports the
following operations:
• Starting or stopping a Virtual Oracle Service
• Rehosting a database
• Adding or removing nodes
• Maintenance Mode
• Deleting a Virtual Oracle Service
Starting/Stopping a Virtual Oracle Service
The appropriate way to start and shut down a High Availability database
through the Solution Pack GUI is to use the Stop Database button.
Shutting down a Virtual Oracle Service is also done through the GUI.
When stopping a Virtual Oracle Service, the database is shutdown on
whatever node it happens to be executing. When starting a Virtual Oracle
Service, the database will be started on the Primary node provided that
the server is healthy.
The following screen shows stopping the PROD Virtual Oracle Service
and then restarting it. Notice the status bar indicating the task at hand.
