HP StorageWorks All-in-One Storage System Release Notes (5697-6640, September 2007)

All-in-One Storage Manager
Issue:
Growing iSCSI LUN fails during heavy SQL Server load
Description
If a user migrates a SQL Server database to the All-in-One Storage System using
All-in-One Storage Manager (ASM) and then later attempts to increase the
storage space allocated to the database while there is heavy SQL Server usage,
an ASM task fai
lure may occur. The failure text is:
Failed to grow
iSCSI LUN
After this fai
lure occurs, ASM will also report that its discovery is failing.
Workaround
RepeatthetasktoincreasetheallocatedstoragewhenthereislessSQLServer
load on the application server and the failure should n ot occur.
To x the related discovery issue, restart the Microsoft iSCSI Software Target
service and then select Action > Refresh from the ASM menu bar.
Issue:
All-in-One Storage Manager migration tasks may fail after all available drives let ters are
consumed on application server
Description
When a task is performed using All-in-One Storage Manager (ASM) that includes
creating a new drive on an application server that is already using all of its
possible drive letters, the task will fail.
Workaround
Unmount an
y unused volumes or network shares that are consuming drive letters
on the appl
ication server and then repeat the task in ASM.
Issue:
ExchangeServer2007logsanerror(EventID9782)ineventlogwhenasnapshotistaken
from All-in-One Storage M anag er.
Description
When a snapshot of an Exchange 2007 Storage Group is taken by All-in-One
Storage M anager, the snapshot succeeds but Exchange logs an error in the
application event log on the Exchange server. This error (shown below) is
expected, and occurs because All-in-One Storage Manager intentionally does
not mark the VSS snapshot as successful. When a VSS snapshot is reported as
successful, Exchange truncates its log les for the Storage Group, but this may
not be desirable in the case of a snapshot which does not typically provide the
same data protection as a backup done via a backup application such as the
integrated Data Protector Express.
Workaround
The er
ror may be ignored. The successful snapshot will appear in the list of
snapshots in the Data Protection tab of All-in-One Storage Manager.
Issu
e:
Snapshots of application data taken from All-in-One Storage Manager will fail with
VSS_
E_PROVIDER_VETO error if the application server is also a Domain Controller.
Description
VSS_E_PROVIDER_VETO error should always be accompanied by a reason for
the veto logged in the Windows application event lo g on the application server.
TherewilllikelybeanerrorfromtheWTSnapshotProviderwithanerrorcode
of 0x80070005 (Access Denied) as shown below. This occurs b ecause the
Windows user ASMUser created on the application server by the ASM Agent
installer, automatically becomes a domain user when the application server is a
domain controller. When this happens, th ere are no matching credentials on the
AiO server to complete the snapshot.
Workaround
On the AiO server, add the user domain\ASMUser as a member of the local
Administrators group, where domain represents the name of your domain.
