HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure for ESX release notes (T2558-96096, April 2008)

enable sending keep-alive message, add the following line to the SSHD conguration le
(/etc/ssh/sshd_config), where n is the time interval (in minutes).
ClientAliveInterval <n>
3. Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure does not prevent you from initiating a failover while
the protection job is in the stopped state. While the job is stopped, the validity of the target data
cannot be veried because protection is not active. Failing over could result in a corrupt target
virtua l machine or loss of data. You should NOT perform a failover while the job is in a stopped
state. To ensure target data is up to date, re-start the protection job and then failover.
4. ESX Server 3.0.0 and VirtualCenter 2.0.0 vs. ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and VirtualCenter 2.0.1
or later: Issues have been observed with ESX Ser ver 3.0.0 and VirtualCenter 2.0.0 when an
increasing number of requests are made of their web ser vices. Such conditions tend to occur
with multiple high- load virtual machines being protected. In such cases, on a few occasions
damagehasoccurredtothesourcevirtualmachineinsuchawaythatitisun-recoverable.The
issues have not been observed in ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and VirtualCenter 2.0.1 or later; it
appears that they have been resolved by VMware. For this reason, it is strongly recommended
that you use this product with ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and VirtualCenter 2.0.1 or later if you
plan on protecting high load or multiple virtual machines..
5. MSDE Database: VMware does not suppor t using MSDE as the database in a production
environment.
6. If a source virtual machine uses multiple datastores and is powered on, you may
receive an error while deleting the snapshots. VMware sugg ests tha t you rst power
off the virtual machine, then delete the snapshots. For more information, see VMware
KnowledgeBase article 10043, available from http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/

NOTE:
This is not an issue when using VirtualCenter 2.5 and ESX Server 3.5
7. Special or unique characters in the virtual machine na me will cause the Storage Mirroring
service to unload. In order to avoid this issue in the near term, do not use any special or unique
characters in the virtual machine name, including the following: # / \ : * ? " < > |
8. Storage Mirroring for Vir tual Infrastructure does not support virtual machines using raw disks on
ESX.
9. When logging into the Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure service from the console, you
must use an account within the admin group from the Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure
service machine
10 . Following an uninstall, the product leaves the log les on the system. You may need to remove
these les manually from <SMVI install path>\Log.
11. During a client-only installation, you m ay be prompted to reboot if a background process, such
as a service, was running tha t held les in use. This reboot is not actually necessar y.
