Installation Notes
IMPORTANT:
A proper installation of Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure will set the groundwork for a
successful implementation. Before you install Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure, you should
carefully review these installation notes, as well as the

sections in the

.
1. The default port has been changed to 6331 for this release. If you are upgrading from a previous
version of Storage Mirroring for Vir tual Infrastructure, and using the default port, you may need
to adjust your rewall to allow trafc through port 6331. If you are currently using a custom port
for Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure, the port will not be affected by the upgrade.
2. Storage Mirroring for Vir tual Infrastructure is a client/server application. You can install the
Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure service on one server, and access the service from
one or more client machines. The Storage Mirroring for Vir tual Infrastructure service may be
installed on the VMware VirtualCenter server; however, installing both applications on the
same ser ver is not mandatory.

Fixes
If you are uncertain about the issues or workarounds addressed in the release notes, contact
Hewlett-Packard Technical Support.
1. VirtualCenter is required when conguring protections using non-root credentials. If VirtualCenter
is not being used, the root account credentials of the source and target ESX servers must
be entered.
2. In some network congurations, SSH connections from the Storage Mirroring for VMware
Infrastructure host to the ESX source tha t appear idle for 15 minutes (such as when waiting
for SCP to nish) may be dropped by either a router/NAT or by rewall. T o work around
this, you will need to congure SSHD on all ESX hosts used by SMVI jobs to send keep-alive
messages back to client so that the connection appears active and is not dropped. To
