HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure for ESX release notes (T2558-96090, February 2008)
virtua l machine or loss of data. You should NOT perform a failover while the job is in a stopped
state. To ensure target data is up to d ate, re-star t the protection job and then failover.
2. ESX Server 3.0.0 and VirtualCenter 2.0.0 vs. ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and Virtua lCenter 2.0.1
or later: Issues have been observed with ESX Server 3.0 .0 and VirtualCenter 2.0.0 when an
increasing number of requests are made of their web services. Such conditions tend to oc cur
with multiple high- load virtual machines being protected. In such ca ses, on a few occasions
damagehasoccurredtothesourcevirtualmachineinsuchawaythatitisun-recoverable.The
issues have not been observed in ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and VirtualCenter 2.0.1 or later; it
appears that they have been resolved by VMware. For this reason, it is strongly recommend e d
that you use this product with ESX Server 3.0.1 or later and VirtualCenter 2.0.1 or later if you
plan on protecting high load or multiple virtual machines.
3. MSDE Database: Issues have been observed when using MSDE as the database for
VirtualCenter with database concurrency, which may cause the protections to fail. For this
reason, it is strongly recommended that you do not use the MSD E database.

nl
VMware does not support using MSDE database in a production environment. The MSDE
database is only useful in testing or evaluation situations, and even then you will most likely h ave
issues with virtual machine protections failing. Performance may be improved when using a
database for VirtualCenter as prescribed in the VMware guidelines for pro duction scenarios.
4. If a source virtual machine uses multiple datastores and is powered on, you may receive an error
while del
eting the snapshots. VMware suggests that you first power off the virtual m achine, then
delete th
esnapshots. Formoreinformation,seeVMwareKnowledgeBasearticle10043,available

5. Special or unique characters in the virtual machine name will cause the Storage Mirroring
servic
e to unload. In order to avoid this issue in the near term, do not use any special or unique
characters in the virtual machine name, including the following: # / \ : * ? ‘ " < > |
6. Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure does not support adding/removing virtual disks
after a protection has been created.
7. Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure does not support virtual machines using raw disks on
ESX.
8. When log ging into the Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure service from the console, you
must use an ac count within the admin group from the Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure
service machine.
9. Foll
owing an uninstall, the product leaves the log files on the system. You may need to remove
the
se fi les manually.
10 . During the migration process within Virtual Center, if you have created snapshots of the virtual
machine being moved using Vmotion™ technology, you may receive messages stating that
the network names are different, or that reverting to snapshot will generate warnings on the
destination host. These are considered normal and are a result of migrating snapshots to
an
other server.
11. During a client-only installation, you m ay be prompted to reboot if a backgrou n d process, such
as a service, was running that held fi les in use. This reboot is not actually necessary.
12 . Whileviewingtheonlinehelpandreadme(.htm)files in Internet Explorer, a message may
appear stating that Internet Explorer has restricted the file from showing active c ontent. You can
disable this setting by modifying your Internet Explorer security settings. In Internet Explorer,
select Tools, Internet Options.OntheAdvanced tab, scroll down to the Security section, then
enable Allow active content to run in files on My Computer.
