HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring Application Manager for Windows release notes (T2558-96088, February 2008)

Version: 5.0
Description
This version of
the Stora ge Mirroring Application Manager (SMAM) is an updated release that
supersedes al
l previous releases, including previous releases of the Exchange Failover utility, Exchange
Failover Toolkit, and eXchange Protection Wizard.
In addition to general maintenance, the following improvements have been added in this release:
SharePoint protection—The Storage Mirroring Application Manager now supports protection for the
Windows S harePoint Services (WSS) version 3, as well as the WSS components of Microsoft Ofce
SharePoint S
erver (MOSS) 2 007. In addition to protecting the back-end SQL Server for a SharePoint
conguratio
n, the Application M anager also allows the SharePoint administrator to connect a target
web server t
o the source SharePoint server farm. The target web server can be used full-time in a
load balanc
ing conguration, or can be congured to provide web front-end access only during
failover.
The Storage Mirroring Application Manager for SharePoint provides one-to-one protection of
SharePoin
t SQL data and supports failover and failback across both L AN and WAN connections.
SharePoint support is currently only available in a at domain.
Exchange 2007 cluster support—The Storage Mirroring Application Manager now includes support
for protecting the mailbox server role in a clustered environment. Supported congurations include:
1. Cluster-to-cluster protection for the Mailbox Server role
2. Cluster
-to-standalone (with Mailbox Server role only)
Exchange 2007 target data verication—The Storage Mirroring Application Manager now supports
T arget Data Verication for E xchange 2 007 in consolidated installations. Testing can be performed
against the replicated copy of Exchange data without the need to stop tracking changes on the source
server or to re-mirror the dataset once testing is complete.
Targe
tdataverication command line utility (TDV.exe)— The TDV c ommand line interface allows you
to sch
edule Target Data Verication from any third-party scheduler for automated runs of TDV at the
most c
onvenient times. Manual testing using Target Data Verication is no longer required. This utility
is su
pported for Exchange 2003 and Exchange 2007.
Exchange 2003 multiple Exchange Virtual Servers (EVS) support—The Storage Mirroring
Application Manager now supports protection of Multiple Exchange Virtual Ser vers (EVS) such as
active/active/passive con g urations. The supported conguration requires that all virtual servers on
the source cluster are replicated and failed over to the single target cluster.
Multiple DNS support—As part of DNS failover and failback, the Application Manager can update
mu
ltiple Domain Name Servers, which minimizes the time to propagate DNS changes. Previously
these changes were made on a single Domain Name Server a nd propagated to its peers.
Tree view leselectionThetreeviewle selector is now available on all application protection tasks.
