HP StorageWorks Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure for ESX release notes (T2558-96090, February 2008)
Version: 3.0.1.2918
Description
1. This version of Storage Mirroring® for Virtual Infrastructure is a new release.
2. In addition to general maintenance, the following features exist in this release:
• Manual Failover/Restore— The steps required to do a manual failover are a one-click
process. The
enhancements to the failover feature also allow you to undo the failover p rocess
and restore data to the original source machine.
• File Difference Mirror— Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure supports file difference
mirrors at the block level during a re-mirror of the source virtual machine. Only the changed
blocks of the file are sent to the target, increasing m irroring speed and decreasing bandwidth
requiremen
ts.
• No Requirement for VMware Virtual C enter—A VMware VirtualCenter server is not required
to set up protection jobs in Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure.
• Bandwidth
Limiting—You can limit the bandwidth used by the p rotection job.
• Test Failover—Allows you to start the target machine with no network connectivity to verify
data integrity on the target – all while the source machine is still available.
• Selectab
le Data Route—On target VMware ESX servers with multiple network adapters,
you can sp
ecify the IP address of the network adapter that Storage Mirroring for Virtual
Infrast
ructure will use to replicate data to the target.
• Target Path Mapping—You can specify the path that is used to create the target virtual
machine.

one or more client machines. The Storage Mirroring for Vir tual Infrastructure service may be
installed on the VMware VirtualCenter server; however, installing both applications on the
same ser ver is not mandatory.

Fixes
If you are uncertain about the issues or workarounds addressed in the release notes, contact
Hewlett-Packard Technical Support.
1. Storage Mirroring for Virtual Infrastructure does not prevent you from initiating a failover while
the protection job is in the stopped state. While the job is stopped, the validity of the target data
cannot be verified because protection is not active. Failing over could result in a corrupt target
