CPUs) Applying t he Oracle July
2008 Critical Patc h Update
These instructions are for applying the Oracle July 2008 CPU that is issued for Linux x86 32–bit
architecture. The instructions assume you upgraded Oracle to 9.2.0.8. If you have not upgraded to
Oracle 9.2.0.8, you will not be able to apply the July 2008 CPU.
Pr e-installation steps
The pre-installation steps are the same as installing July 2008 critical patch over Oracle 9.2.0.8. To
prepare to i
nstall the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update:
1. Login as user root by entering the following command:
su — root
2. Verify tha
t Perl has been installed and is available by entering the following command :
perl –v
You see the version of Perl on the computer.
3. Add the fol
lowing line to the PATH environment variable by entering the following command:
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/HP_Storage_Essentials/JBossandJetty/server/
appiq/remoteScripts/perl/bin
where /opt
/HP_Storage_Essentials is the directory where the HP Storage Essentials S RM
management server is installed.
4. Add the following line to the PATH environment variable by entering the following command:
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0.4/OPatch
where /opt
/oracle/product/9.2.0.4 is the installation directory for Oracle.
5. Stop the following services:
a. Enter the following at the command prompt to stop the service for HP Storage Essentials SRM
(AppStor
Manager):
/etc/init.d/appstormanager stop
b. If you are running the integrated version of HP Storage Essentials SRM, stop HP SIM by e ntering
the following command:
/opt/mx
/bin/mxstop
6. To stop Oracle from running:
a. Login as the Oracle user by entering the following command:
su – orac
le
b. Start SQL*Plus by entering the following command:
sqlplus /nolog
c. Connec
t as SYSDBA by entering the following command:
