01 is the build number for the patch. The build number may be different for the patch you have .
<Destination_Directory> is the destination directory. Make sure the directory path does
not contain spaces.
4. Navigate to the <Destination_Directory> provided in the previous step.
5. Enter the following to implement the patch:
./runCPUJul2008_Linux_9208.sh
6. The script silently installs the latest version of OPatch. You are asked the following question just
before the critical patch is installed:
OPatch detected non-cluster Oracle Home from the inventory and will
patch the local system only.
Please shut down Oracle instances running out of this ORACLE_HOME
(Oracle Home = /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0.4)
Is this system ready for updating? Please respond Y|N >
Enter a Y.
You are told to look at a readme le for post-installation steps. Do not look for the readme le. The
post-installation steps you need are in this document.
The patch is installed successfully when you see an "OPatch succeeded" message similar to the
following:
Executing the Apply post-patch script (/downloads/oracle9i/release/
Linux/7154111/custom/scripts/post)... OPatch succeeded.

llation steps
To complete the post-installation steps:
1. To start Oracle services:
a. Login as Or
acle by entering the following command:
su oracle
b. Start the Oracle listener by entering the following c om m and:
lsnrctl st
art
NOTE:
It may take
several minutes for the Oracle listener to start.
c. Ensure that the Oracle listener is running by entering the following command:
lsnrctl status
d. After the Oracle listener starts, start SQ L*Plus by entering the following command prompt:
sqlplus /nolog
e. Connect as SYSD BA by entering the following command:
connect as SYSDBA
f. Enter the following at the user-name prompt to login as user SYS:
SYS@APPIQ
SYS is the user account that owns the database and the data dictionary.
g. EnterthepasswordforuserSYS.
