2 Applying the Oracle July 2008
Critical Patch Update
E ach quarter Oracle issues a critical patc h. These instr uctions ar e for installing Oracle Patch 19, which
includes the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update and some additional software xes. This patch
assumes you have successfully upgraded Oracle to 9.2.0.8. If you have not upgraded to Oracle 9.2.0.8,
you will not be able to apply the patch.
IMPORTANT:
HP Storage Essentials SRM is unavailable when installing the Oracle July 2008 CPU. Plan a non-peak
time to implement these steps.
You do not need to install a previ ous CPU, as the July 2008 CPU is cumulative.
To install the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update:
NOTE:
The script for installing the July 2008 CPU does not run if its directory path contains spaces, for example
/my patch/runCPUJul2008.cmd.
1. Export your database by using the Export Backup feature in the Da tabase Admin Utility. This export
is required in case an issue occurs during the July 2008 CPU update.
Refer to the HP Storage Essentials SRM User Guide for i nformation about the Database Admin
Utility. The HP Storage Essentials SRM User Guide is accessible from the Documentation Center on
the HP Stora g e Essentials management server. You will later need to use the Cold Backup feature
in the Dat
abase Admin Utility while the HP Storage Essentials management server is not running.
You cannot access the Documentation Center when the HP Storage Essentials management server
is not running. It is recommended you save the User Guide to another location so you can easily
access i
t when you need to do a Cold Backup.
IMPORTANT:
YouwillneedtostoptheAppstorManagerservicebeforeyoucanruntheDatabaseAdminUtility.The
AppStorManager service will sometimes hang if you try to stop it. If you have difculties with stopping
AppStorManager, set the service to Manual and then reboot the server.
2. Create a folder to contain the content of the zip archive, and name this new folder patch19.
3. Extract the content of the zip archive to patch19 folder.
4. Launchacommandlinewindowandmakepatch19 the current working subdirectory .
5. You must stop the following services if they are running:
