1Introduction
These directions include steps to apply the O racle July 2008 Critical Patch Update (CPU). For the patches
to work properly, you must first upgrade O racle to 9.2.0.8, a nd then you must install the Oracle July
2008 CPU as described in chapter 2. You can find the kit for upgrading from Oracle 9.2.0.6 to Oracle
9.2.0.8 at the following Web site: h

Determining if you have a previous Oracle CPU installed
This document is split into two sections one for servers without previous Oracle CPUs and another for
servers with
previous Oracle CPUs.
To determine if you have a previous O racle CPU installed:
1. Login as the Oracle user by entering the following command:
su — oracle
2. Expor t the display by entering the following command :
export DISPLAY=ipaddress:0.0
where ipaddr
ess is the IP address of the display.
3. Enter the following:
echo $DISPLAY
4. Enter the fo
llowing:
$ORACLE_HOME/oui/bin/runInstaller
where $OR ACLE_HOME is an environment variable whose value points to the directory where the
Oracle prod
ucts are installed
5. Click Installed Products in the installer.
If a previous Oracle CPU was installed, you will see a pa tch number listed under the Interim Patches
heading. O
racle patches have numbers assigned to them. For example, in the following figure,
Interim Patch #6395038 is displayed. This number corresponds to the Oracle October 2007 patch.
An Oracle CPU with m any updates can have multiple interim patches.
