E ach quarter Oracle issues a Critical Patch. These instructions are for the Oracle July 2008 CPU issued
for Linux x86 32–bit architecture. This patch assumes you have successfully upgraded Oracle to 9.2.0.8.
Ifyouhavenot,youwillnotbeabletoapplythepatch.
IMPORTANT:
HP Storage Essentials SRM is unavailable when installing the Oracle July 2008 CPU. Plan a non-peak
time to implement these steps.
These steps assume you have not installed previous Oracle CPUs.
Pr e-installation steps
To prepare to install the Oracle July 2008 critical patch update:
1. Login as user root by entering the following command:
su root
2. Verify that Perl has been installed and is available by entering the following command:
perl –v
You see the version of Perl on the computer.
3. Add the following line to the PATH environment variable by entering the following command:
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/HP_Storage_Essentials/JBossandJetty/server/
appiq/remoteScripts/perl/bin
where /opt/HP_Storage_Essentials is the directory where the HP Storage Essentials SRM
management server is installed.
4. Add the following line to the PATH environment variable by entering the following command:
export PATH=$PATH:/opt/oracle/product/9.2.0.4/OPatch
where /opt/oracle/product/9.2.0.4 is the installation directory for Oracle.
5. Stop the following services:
a. Enter the following at the command prompt to stop the service for HP Storage Essentials SRM
(AppStorManager):
/etc/init.d/appstormanager stop
b. If you are running the integrated version of HP Storage Essentials SRM, stop HP SIM by e ntering
the following command:
/opt/mx/bin/mxstop
6. To stop Oracle from running:
a. Login as the Oracle user by entering the following command:
