Upgrading from earlier firmware version
You can upgrade to firmware version 8.0.14.08.00 from version 8.0.14.03.00, 8.0.4.04.00,
7.6.0.02.00, 6.9.0.15.00, or 6.9.0.14.00 on an operating switch without disrupting data traffic
or having to re-initialize attached devices. The switch is not required to be offline before performing
an upgrade operation. For a successful non-disruptive activation, ensure that the following conditions
are satisfied:
• No changes are being made to switches in the fabric, including powering up, powering down,
disconnecting or connecting interswitch links (ISLs), changing switch configurations, or installing
firmware.
• No port in the fabric is in the diagnostic state
• No zoning changes are being made in the fabric
• No changes are being made to attached devices, including powering up, powering down,
disconnecting, connecting and Host Bus Adapter (HBA) configuration changes
NOTE: Upgrading to 8.0.14.08.00 might cause a Link Reset to devices which issue Name Server
commands during the switch upgrade.
Before upgrading firmware, HP recommends to take backup of the switch configuration. For more
information, see HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools Switch Management User Guide,
HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools Switch Management User Guide, HP SN6000 Fibre
Channel Switch Command Line Interface Guide, or HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch Command
Line Interface Guide.
Use the SAN Connection Manager (SCM) application, the switch QuickTools application, or the
switch Command Line Interface (CLI) to install the new firmware. Install the firmware on one switch
at a time in the fabric. When installing the firmware on more than one switch, wait two minutes
after the activation is complete and then install the firmware on another switch. If SCM is used to
install the firmware, the timing of the firmware installation is automatic.
For more information on upgrading firmware versions, see the HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch
Installation and Reference Guide, HP 8/20q Fibre Channel Switch Installation and Reference
Guide, or the HP SAN Connection Manager User Guide. These documents are available at the
HP Support Center website.
Considerations for downgrading the firmware version
Consider the following before downgrading firmware:
• The minimum supported version is 8.0.14.03.00.
• Downgrading the firmware to a previous version is a disruptive operation. You must prepare
attached devices for this disruption during the downgrade operation.
• HP recommends to take backup of the switch configuration. For more information, see the HP
8/20q Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools Switch Management User Guide, HP 8/20q Fibre
Channel Switch Command Line Interface Guide, HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch QuickTools
Switch Management User Guide, or HP SN6000 Fibre Channel Switch Command Line Interface
Guide.
