3 Setting Up Oracle Data Guard
ODG provides the management, monitoring, and automation software to create and maintain one
or more standby databases. These databases protect Oracle data from failures, disasters, human
error, and data corruption.
ODG is included with the Enterprise Edition and Personal Edition of the Oracle database software.
A Data Guard configuration consists of one production database and up to nine standby databases.
There are two types of standby databases:
• Physical Standby database
• Logical Standby database
This User Guide assumes that:
1. Oracle is installed on all the nodes of the cluster.
2. Data Guard database (Primary and Standby) are configured.
3. Storage is already configured.
