HP Serviceguard Oracle DataGuard Toolkit User Guide, April 2011

NOTE: These configurations hold good both in single-instance and RAC environment.
High Availability for Data Guard Broker
High availability for Data Guard Broker will be supported only on RAC but not on single-instance
database.
This is because Oracle does not support high availability for Data Guard Broker with vendor
clusterware for single-instance Oracle database.
If the value of MONITOR_DG_BROKER attribute is set to "yes" and the ODG toolkit is used in
combination with the SGeRAC toolkit, the ODG toolkit starts the broker and monitors the DMON
process. The Data Guard monitor process (DMON) is an Oracle background process that runs for
every database instance that is managed by the broker. When you start the Data Guard broker,
a DMON process is created. Note that if the broker process (DMON) fails, then the ODG toolkit
will not failover the package. A message will be logged in the package log file to notify
the user about the failure of the Broker process after trying to restart it twice.
When using ODG toolkit with ODG Broker in a Continentalclusters environment, it is recommended
that the β€œFast-Start Failover” feature is disabled.
NOTE: If MONITOR_DG_BROKER is set to β€œyes”, the toolkit does not monitor the mrp (or lsp)
process on physical standby database (or logical standby database).
