Preparing to Install Storage Foundation

for

Oracle RAC

This chapter provides an overall view of the product and phases of the installation and

configuration for VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC (version 4.1). Refer to the

information below for hardware and software requirements and information you need to

have on hand when interacting with the installation utilities.

High-Level View of Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC

This section introduces a high-level view of VERITAS Storage Foundation for Oracle RAC

and tasks to install SFRAC. If you install SFRAC with Oracle9i and create a database, the

cluster has the following characteristics:

◆ Nodes connected by at least two private network links using 100 Base T or

Gigabit Ethernet controllers on each system. For two-node clusters, cross-over

Ethernet cables are acceptable. For maximum performance, VERITAS recommends

the use of switches over hubs. In either case, use a minimum of two switches or hubs

to provide necessary redundancy.



◆ Nodes running Serviceguard extension for RAC, VERITAS Volume Manager with

cluster features (CVM), VERITAS File System with cluster features (CFS), and Storage

Foundation for Oracle RAC agents and components, including I/O fencing.

◆ Oracle RAC software that resides either on the shared storage accessible to all nodes

or locally on each node.

◆ Oracle RAC database configured on the shared storage (cluster file system or raw

volumes) is available to each node.

◆ Resources required by Oracle RAC; these resources runs in parallel on each node.
