HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite A.03.00 Release Notes

the SG SMS media (DVD). Then the HP-UX update can be done independently using the
HP-UX installation media (DVD).
For SG SMS Operating Environment (OE) bundle upgrades, additional planning is
necessary. The SG SMS software provided on the SG SMS DVD relies on products and
filesets that are provided on the HP-UX OE (DCOE, or HAOE) DVD. If the new SG SMS
OE bundle version requires new versions of Serviceguard and ECMT that are delivered
on the HP-UX OE media, Serviceguard and ECMT must be updated together with the SG
SMS OE bundle upgrade (not with the HP-UX update). For the HP-UX update, Serviceguard
and ECMT are excluded from the update when you run the update-ux command. For
the SG SMS OE bundle upgrade, the appropriate (supported) versions of Serviceguard
and ECMT must be added to the software depot that the SG SMS OE bundle will be
upgraded from. See “Upgrading a SG SMS OE Bundle - Independent from an HP-UX
Update” (page 31) for more information.
Updating HP-UX and SG SMS Simultaneously
This section describes the process for updating the HP-UX version and the HP Serviceguard Storage
Management Suite Operating Environment (OE) bundle version in one step using update-ux.
This procedure is necessary when an upgrade to a new SG SMS OE bundle depends on a later
Serviceguard version than the one that is currently installed.
General information about updating to HP-UX 11i v3 with update-ux, is available at:
www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs ->HP Serviceguard
1. Copy the contents of your 11i v3 OE media to an HP-UX depot, for example:
swcopy -s /11iv3OE_DVD \* @ /var/depots/my_hpux_depot
If there are multiple 11i v3 OE DVDs, repeat this with each DVD.
You can also use the interactive swcopy command to automatically mount and unmount the
DVD, for example:
swcopy -i \* @ /var/depots/my_hpux_depot
- then select Find Local CD-ROM in the Specify Source screen.
2. Copy the contents of the HP-UX Serviceguard and HP Storage Management Products media,
for example /11iv3SG_DVD, into the same HP-UX depot. If there are multiple Serviceguard
and Storage Management DVDs, repeat this with each DVD:
swcopy -s /11iv3SG_DVD \* @ /var/depots/my_hpux_depot
Or use interactive swcopy as shown in step 1.
3. If you plan to use this HP-UX depot to update systems other than the system where the depot
resides, the HP-UX depot must be registered. The swcopy command will automatically register
the depot when it is first created, but it is harmless to register it again just to be sure it is visible
to other systems. To do this, enter:
swreg -l depot @ /var/depots/my_hpux_depot

be installed on each node as part of a rolling upgrade. See “Upgrading to a Different SG

T8696DB, or T8697DB) can be performed with an online or an offline upgrade depending
on the version that is currently installed. See “Upgrading to a Different SG SMS Bundle
