HP Serviceguard Version A.11.20 Release Notes, February 2014

Rules and Limitations
Serviceguard automatically implements PR for packages using volume groups configured on a LUN
storage, subject to the following guidelines:
The LUN device must support PR and be consistent with the SPC-3 specification.
PR is enabled for packages with iSCSI disks, but disabled for packages with non-iSCSI disks.
Packages with a mix of iSCSI and non-iSCSI disks are not supported.
iSCSI is only supported with modular packages. It is not supported with legacy packages and
the system multi-node package, which is reserved for use for supporting the Cluster Volume
Manager.
iSCSI storage devices with PR are supported on only LVM volume groups, and not VxVM or
CVM volume groups.
iSCSI storage devices are not supported in Serviceguard on PA-RISC systems.
iSCSI storage devices do not support the configuration of a lock LUN and a lock disk.
Enhancement to Handle Failures During Package Halt
When halting modular failover packages, Serviceguard ignores any failures and forcefully halt all
modules of the package, causing the package to halt ungracefully. Consequently, the restart of
the same package can take more time owing to file system recovery or other reasons.
This enhancement provides a new option -a to the cmhaltpkg command, which can be used to
safely halt a package and thus avoid any startup time penalty during a restart of the package.
When you use cmhaltpkg -a, Serviceguard aborts package halt when a non-Serviceguard
module reports failure. You can manually fix the failure and re-issue the cmhaltpkg command to
gracefully halt the package.
For more information, see the “Handling Failures During Package Halt” section in Chapter 7 of
the latest version of the Managing Serviceguard manual.
Easy Migration from Legacy Packages to Modular Packages
In this enhancement, Serviceguard introduces a new command cmeasymigrate. This command
can be used to convert Serviceguard legacy toolkit packages to modular packages. Using this
command you can also migrate or consolidate multiple legacy/modular CFS packages into a
single modular package.
For details, see the cmeasymigrate(1m) man page and the white paper Migrating Packages
from Legacy Style to Modular Style at http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs —> HP
Serviceguard.
Integration of System Fault Management or Custom Defined Monitor in Serviceguard Using Generic
Resources
The feature, generic resources, is a resource monitoring mechanism in Serviceguard that allows
you to monitor critical resources for a package through System Fault Management (SFM), or custom
monitors, by configuring these monitors as user-defined services. It provides integration of custom,
user-defined monitors in Serviceguard by configuring the generic resource parameters as part of
package configuration. For more information, see the latest edition of the Managing Serviceguard
manual. This feature is available in the PHSS_42136 patch and later.
NOTE: Generic resources can also be configured in modular style CFS packages. To configure
generic resources in Modular Style CFS packages, the Serviceguard CFS A.11.20 patch
PHSS_42136 must be installed.
