NOTE: Generic resources can also be configured in modular style CFS packages. To configure
generic resources in Modular Style CFS packages, the Serviceguard CFS A.11.20 patch
PHSS_42136 must be installed.
Advantages of Generic Resources
• Custom defined monitors can also be integrated.
• Provides better control, options, and flexibility in terms of getting and setting the status of a
resource.
• With generic resources, different kind of monitoring mechanism can be used and these can
co-exist in a single package.
Modular CFS Packages for Reducing Package Usage
With modular CFS packages, Serviceguard provides the flexibility to combine all the CVM disk
groups and CFS mount points required by an application into a single package using the modular
style of packaging. As a result, the number of packages used for configuring disk groups and
mount points in that cluster reduces significantly compared to the packages used for configuring
the same in the legacy style of packaging. This helps in easy management of the packages in that
cluster and leaves more packages for other applications. You can also merge all the checkpoints
and snapshot packages into individual modular checkpoint and snapshot packages respectively.
Using the modular style of packaging provides flexibility and can be managed better compared
to the legacy style of packaging, and is the highly recommended approach to create CFS packages.
In this patch (PHSS_42136), the modular CFS package feature has been enhanced to support
online reconfiguration of CFS package parameters. This new feature allows addition, removal,
and/or modification of CFS package parameters for disk group, mount point, checkpoint, and
snapshot packages. For details on the parameters that can be reconfigured online, see the “Online
reconfiguration of modular CFS package parameters” section in chapter 5 of latest version of the
Managing Serviceguard manual.
For this feature to be enabled, both patches, Serviceguard A.11.20 patch (PHSS_42137) and
Serviceguard CFS A.11.20 patch (PHSS_42136) or later must be installed.
Advantages of Modular CFS Packages
• A single multi-node package can include multiple disk groups and mount points, thus reducing
the number of packages required to build a CVM/CFS storage configuration.
• Disk groups and mount points can also be placed in separate multi-node packages, but
dependencies between the mount points and disk groups must be configured explicitly in the
configuration files.
• Modular CFS packages can also be configured and managed by Serviceguard Manager.
• Supports parallel activation of disk groups and parallel mounting of mount points.
• The Serviceguard cluster and package information displayed by cmviewcl (1m) output is
more compact.

Improved Performance while Halting a Non-detached Multi-node Package
The command cmhaltpkg (1m) has been modified so that you will now see a performance
improvement while halting a non-detached multi-node package. When cmhaltpkg (1m) is run
on a non-detached multi-node package, the package is halted simultaneously on all the nodes or
the list of the nodes specified, thus reducing the down time in halting the packages. This performance
