HP Serviceguard Version A.11.18 Release Notes, September 2008
• There are new Serviceguard demons:
— Lock LUN Daemon: cmldisklockd
If a lock LUN is being used, cmdisklockd runs on each node in the cluster
and is started by cmcld when the node joins the cluster.
— Network Manager Daemon: cmnetd
Runs on every node on which cmcld is running.
— Utility Daemon: cmlockd
Runs on every node on which cmcld is running (though currently not actually
used by Serviceguard on HP-UX systems).
• Serviceguard A.11.18 uses a new cluster lock algorithm, with a standard delay
time irrespective of the type of bus or Host Bus Adapter (HBA) being used by the
lock device.
This is possible because many older, slower buses and HBAs are no longer
supported by any version of HP-UX that supports Serviceguard A.11.18. In some
cases, the new algorithm results in a substantial reduction in the overall cluster
re-formation time.
New Serviceguard Features Available Only on HP-UX 11i v3
• Serviceguard A.11.18 on HP-UX 11i v3 supports HP-UX agile addressing,
sometimes also called persistent LUN binding, for device special files (DSFs).
See “About Device Special Files (DSFs)” (page 46).
• Serviceguard A.11.18 on HP-UX 11i v3 supports HP-UX native multipathing and
load balancing.
See “Native Multipathing, Veritas DMP, and Related Features” (page 19).
• There are new networking capabilities:
— The HP-UX olrad -C command now identifies network interface cards (NICs)
that are part of the Serviceguard cluster configuration.
You can remove a NIC from the cluster configuration, and then from the system,
without bringing down the cluster. See “About olrad” (page 48).
— Serviceguard now also supports the LAN Monitor mode of APA.
• Serviceguard supports Process IDs (PIDs) of any size, up to the maximum value
supported by HP-UX and the node’s underlying hardware architecture.
Previous versions of HP-UX imposed a limit of 30,000; this limit has been removed
as of HP-UX 11i v3. For more information, see the white paper Number of Processes
and Process ID Values on HP-UX on docs.hp.com.
