ServiceGuard Manager Version A.02.00 Release Notes
Compatibility Information and Installation Requirements
(a node that has ServiceGuard A.11.12 or later installed).
To also do administration, the user needs to log on as root at least one
HP-UX server that has installed ServiceGuard A.11.13 with patches.
(See "Required and Recommended Patches” in this document.)
If the user logs on as a non-root user, the server will disable all
administration commands, and offer read-only information about the
configuration and status of the discovered ServiceGuard objects.
If the user logs into the server as root, the server will also enable the
administration menus for all discovered map objects, it will accept
commands from the user, and it will relay those commands to the
selected object.
• Which clusters will they see and administer?
The server then polls its subnets to discover ServiceGuard nodes.
The contact between server and the cluster nodes depends on two
things: server-node subnet connections and server-node access
permission.
To be discovered, a ServiceGuard cluster needs to be on the same
subnet as the server node (but not necessarily on the same subnet as
the user’s management station).
Each cluster node must be allowed to accept queries and commands
from the server (not the user). You grant permission to the server,
who always contacts other ServiceGuard nodes as root. Include this
pair in the node access file:
servername
root. It is recommended you
use /etc/cmcluster/cmclnodelist file for node access, since it
allows access only to ServiceGuard. You can use the /.rhosts file
instead, but it grants broader access permissions.
If you created a server package to make your server connection highly
available, allow all the server package access to all the nodes of the
clusters that you want discovered.
The server searches its subnets, queries ServiceGuard nodes, and
gathers information about clusters. It passes this information back to
the management station where ServiceGuard Manager is installed.
This information is used to create the map, tree, and property sheets.
The information is updated at every refresh (automatic or by menu
command).
If a user is logged in to the server as root, the server will also
populate the Admin menus with appropriate commands. It will relay
