Support for HPVM and VMware ESX Server
Serviceguard for Linux, with the patches listed under “New Features for March 2008
Patches” (page 14), now supports HP Integrity Virtual Machines (HPVM) version
3.0, and VMware ESX Server version 3.0.2.
IMPORTANT: Version 3.0 is the only version of HPVM that Serviceguard A.11.18
supports. See the HP Serviceguard for Linux Certification Matrix, at http://
www.hp.com/info/sglx -> Downloadables -> Certification Matrix,
for the most up-to-date compatibility information.
Serviceguard for Linux A.11.18 supports using an HPVM or VMware ESX server virtual
machine as a cluster node (but not as a package). HPVM is supported on HP Integrity
systems; VMware ESX Server is supported on x86 systems.
For installation and configuration information for each type of virtual machine, see the
documents listed under “For More Information” (page 36).
Points to Note
If any Serviceguard cluster node is a virtual machine, the amount of time
Serviceguard needs to wait for a failed node’s I/O to complete increases. See About
Virtual Machines and Cluster Re-formation Time” (page 35).
Failover packages running on clusters that include at least one VMware virtual
machine must make Serviceguard aware of this. In a modular package, you do
this by including the persistent_res module and setting the sglx_vm parameter
to on. In a legacy package, set the SGLX_VM parameter to on. For more
configuration information, see Using Serviceguard for Linux with VMware Virtual
Machines at the address given under “For More Information” (page 36). For more
information about modular and legacy packages, see About Modular Packages”
(page 18).
