HP Serviceguard for Linux Version A.11.18 Release Notes, 2nd Edition, March 2009

New Method for Configuring Packages
Serviceguard A.11.18 introduces a new process for configuring packages. Packages
created by this method are known as modular packages, because you can now build
a package using only the sets of functions (modules) that this package needs; and you
no longer need to create and distribute a separate package control script.
Packages created using previous versions of Serviceguard are referred to as legacy
packages and are still supported; you can continue to maintain as well as run them,
and you can still create new packages by this older method if you need to.
See About Modular Packages” (page 18).
Support for Virtual Machines
Serviceguard for Linux now supports HPVM and VMware ESX Server virtual machines.
See “Support for HPVM and VMware ESX Server (page 34). This functionality requires
patches; see “New Features for March 2008 Patches” (page 14).
New Online Cluster-Management Capabilities
Serviceguard A.11.18 introduces important new online management capabilities,
particularly as regards the cluster timing parameters and networking configuration.
These new capabilities significantly reduce the number of maintenance tasks that
require cluster downtime.
See “New Online Networking-Configuration Capabilities” (page 32) and “New Online
Timing-Configuration Capabilities” (page 36).
Serviceguard Manager Available from the System Management Homepage (SMH)
For details, see About the Serviceguard Manager SMH Plug-In” (page 38).
NOTE: The earlier, station-management (or standalone) version of Serviceguard
Manager (A.05.01) is obsolete as of Serviceguard for Linux A.11.18. The last version of
Serviceguard for Linux that supports that product is A.11.16.
But you still need the earlier version of Serviceguard Manager, in conjunction with HP
Systems Insight Manager (HP SIM), if you need to manage multiple Serviceguard
clusters. In this case, you need to install Serviceguard Manager A.05.01 on an HP SIM
Central Management Server (CMS). See scenarios 2 and 3 under “Launching
Serviceguard Manager: Three Scenarios” (page 40).
Support for DM-MPIO
With the patches shown under “New Features for March 2008 Patches” (page 14),
Serviceguard for Linux supports DeviceMapper multipath (DM-MPIO) for application
LUNS. It supports DM-MPIO for the lock LUN only on Red Hat 5.1 or later (that is,
not on earlier versions of Red Hat, and not on SUSE).
