OCFS2 Integration with HP Serviceguard for Linux Administrator's Guide, Second Edition, May 2009

NOTE: OCFS2 does not include support for any cluster volume manager.
Overview of HP Serviceguard for Linux
HP Serviceguard for Linux is a software that allows you to create high availability clusters of
HP ProLiant or HP Integrity Servers. Redundant configurations ensure high availability of
application services running on systems. In such configurations, in the event of hardware or
software failure, application services continue to run with minimal downtime. Highly available
systems protect users from software failures as well as from failure of a system processing unit
(SPU), disk, or local area network (LAN) component. In the event that any one component fails,
the redundant component will take over. HP Serviceguard for Linux and other high availability
subsystems coordinate the transfer between components.
A Serviceguard cluster is a networked grouping of HP ProLiant or HP Integrity servers (host
systems known as nodes) having sufficient redundancy of software and hardware that a single
point of failure will not significantly disrupt service. Application services, such as individual
Linux processes, are grouped together in packages. If a single service, node, network or resource
fails, HP Serviceguard for Linux automatically transfers control of the package to another node
within the cluster, allowing services to remain available with minimal interruption.
Features of HP Serviceguard for Linux
Following are some of the features of HP Serviceguard for Linux:
Effective Resource Management
With HP Serviceguard for Linux, you can decide the applications that you want to protect
and its associated resources. Resources can include IP addresses, volume groups, logical
volumes, file systems and so on. The nodes in a cluster can be physical servers, virtual
machine guests, blades and even partitions.
Support for Multiple Hardware
— Available on multiple platforms
HP ProLiant
HP BladeSystems
HP Integrity
Several third-party x86 servers
— Easy Integration with HP StorageWorks storage systems
HP Serviceguard for Linux can be easily integrated with SAN software such as HP
StorageWorks. It also includes support for multiple operating systems in a SAN.
HP Serviceguard for Linux provides you a host of commands, tools and utilities that help
you manage a cluster and its functioning.
Effective Alerts and Error Detection Mechanism
HP Serviceguard for Linux includes an end-to-end system for alerts, and errors. Using these
alerts and error reporting mechanisms, you can protect your environment from unplanned
downtime. Such features help preserve data integrity, and protect your environment from
disasters.
Multiple disaster tolerant solutions
— HP Serviceguard for Linux Extended Distance Cluster (XDC)
— HP StorageWorks Cluster Extension CLX for XP and EVA
Serviceguard Manager, an HP SMH plug-in application
HP Serviceguard Cluster Manager allows you to monitor, administer and configure a
Serviceguard cluster from any system that has a Web browser.
