HP-UX and Linux Serviceguard Cluster Manageability, June 2007

Multiple cluster management
Multiple cluster management for Serviceguard versions A.11.16.00 through A.11.17.01 is supported
with Serviceguard Manager stand-alone.
Multi-cluster management can also be achieved using HP SIM. HP SIM automatically identifies and
displays Serviceguard clusters and status. With Serviceguard Manager stand-alone installed on the
HP SIM Central Management Server (CMS), HP SIM can also launch SG Manager stand-alone or
functional area based on the version of the Serviceguard cluster to be managed.
HP Serviceguard Manager integration with HP Systems Insight Manager
HP delivers tight integration between Serviceguard Manager and HP SIM through automatic
integration and automatic discovery of clusters and cluster member nodes, status, and event
notification. HP SIM provides robust hardware monitoring, providing enhanced cluster node
manageability. Additionally, from the HP SIM interface, administrators can select a cluster node and
launch Serviceguard Manager in the context of the cluster in which the selected node belongs.
Key features of integration
Automatically identifies and displays Serviceguard clusters and status through a Serviceguard
SNMP sub-agent or a WBEM provider for HP-UX on the HP SIM interface with unique color-coded
icons
Provides detailed SNMP events for cluster, servers, and storage displayed in the HP SIM event log
Provides embedded menu item to launch Serviceguard Manager
Integrates into all major HP SIM host platforms, including HP-UX, Linux, and Windows
Offers automatic and free of charge download of Serviceguard Manager from
http://www.software.hp.com.
SIM provides the bird’s eye view of all the systems on a given network and is the main component for
HP multi-system management, HP SMH provides system level management for a specific HP system
and functional areas to HP SMH such as Serviceguard Manager and the Disks and File Systems tool
extend manageability to specific areas such as Serviceguard clusters and file system management.
HP Serviceguard Manager integration with HP Network Node Manager
Integration between Serviceguard Manager stand-alone version and HP NNM is automatic when
both are installed, enabling users of HP NNM to manage and administer Serviceguard clusters and
view in-depth hardware data from the same common HP Operations Manager console used to
monitor enterprise network availability. Integration of the Serviceguard Manager functional area
version is achieved through HP SIM integration and provides the same easy-to-use interface
administrators use for cluster management. Serviceguard Manager integration also provides
translation of SNMP events into easy-to-read messages.
Key features of integration
Automatically integrates upon installation of Serviceguard Manager into an existing HP NNM
console
Provides SNMP events for cluster and package status, servers, and storage
Provides embedded menu items to launch Serviceguard Manager
Integrates into all major HP NNM host platforms, including HP-UX, Windows, and Linux
Integration instructions can be found in the Serviceguard Manager release notes, located at
http://www.docs.hp.com.
