Introduction

This white paper describes a procedure to migrate an HP Cluster Extension Software (CLX) on Linux to HP Serviceguard

Metrocluster on Linux. It also provides an overview of functionalities and advantages of using Metrocluster.

Audience

The target audience for this document is HP Cluster Extension Software administrators who want to migrate to HP

Serviceguard Metrocluster on Linux. HP assumes that the reader has a general understanding of Red Hat Cluster Suite

(RHCS) or SUSE Linux Enterprise High Availability (SLE HA), and HP Serviceguard for Linux.

Overview

HP Cluster Extension Software solution on Linux

HP Cluster Extension Software is an integrated solution that works with HP Storage Arrays to protect against system

downtime. Delivers automatic failover of application services and read/write enabling of remotely mirrored mid-range/high-

end storage over metropolitan distances.

HP CLX Cluster Extension Software delivers true hands-free failover/failback decision making. HP CLX Cluster Extension

Software supports the HP 3PAR/3PAR StoreServ, P9000, and P6000 arrays.

HP Serviceguard for Linux

HP Serviceguard is one of the preferred HA solutions of industry for over 20 years and is available on HP-UX PA RISC

/Integrity and Linux x86-64 bit platforms. HP Serviceguard solutions for Linux are built to address the financial, business,

and operational impacts of downtime in a mission-critical x86 Infrastructure.

The HP Serviceguard for Linux :

• Protects mission-critical workloads that runs on x86-64 bit platforms from downtime

• Provides reliable, cost-effective proven High Availability (HA) solution

• Supports multi-platform environment

• Maximises uptime by moving workloads between servers during a failure

HP Serviceguard Metrocluster is a disaster recovery solution that ensures service availability in the event of disaster.

Use HP Serviceguard Metrocluster to:

• Create a single cluster by using nodes that are located apart from each other at different data centers.

• Integrate Serviceguard for Linux robust failover mechanism with disk array based replication technologies.

• Automatically manage the replication by preserving the data integrity and to provide continuous protection against future

failures.
