7 SAP Master Data Management (MDM)
SGeSAP legacy packaging provides a cluster solution for server components of SAP Master Data
Management (MDM), i.e. the MDB, MDS, MDIS, and MDSS servers. They can be handled as a
single package or split up into four individual packages.
Master Data Management - Overview
Figure 5.1 provides a general flow of how SGeSAP works with MDM.
• The Upper Layer—contains the User Interface components.
• The Middle Layer—contains the MDM Server components. The MDM components to be clustered
with SGeSAP are from the middle layer. These are MDS, MDIS, MDSS and MDB.
• The Lower Layer—contains the Inbound and Outbound connections into an SAP Netweaver
XI environment.

Allows you to use, administer and monitor the MDM components. For
example, the MDM console allows you to create and maintain the structure
of MDM repositories as well as to control access to them.
