Serviceguard Extension for RAC Version A.11.20 Release Notes, April 2013

IMPORTANT: To enable cDSF functionality in Serviceguard A.11.20, a Patch (PHSS_41225 or
later) is required.
NOTE: cDSFs apply only to shared storage. They will not be generated for local storage, such
as root, boot, and swap devices.
HP recommends that you use cDSFs for the storage devices in the cluster because this makes it
simpler to deploy and maintain a cluster, and removes a potential source of configuration errors.
SGeRAC supports Cluster-wide Device Special File (cDSF) format. See below.
1. If HP raw disks are being used for Oracle Clusterware and Database configuration, then you
can create cDSFs and use them directly.
2. The cluster running with Oracle clusterware and RAC Database related files on Shared Logical
Volume groups using persistent Device Special File (DSF) format can be migrated to use cDSF
without deactivating the volume groups (or halting OC/RAC MNP packages if they have been
configured).
3. It is recommended to refer to Oracle documentation for the Oracle commands to
change/update the raw disks with Persistent DSF format used for OCR/Vote/Database to
cDSF.
Limitations of cDSFs
cDSFs are supported only within a single cluster. You cannot define a cDSF group that crosses
cluster boundaries.
A node can belong to only one cDSF group.
cDSFs are not supported by VxVM, CVM, CFS, or any other application that assumes DSFs
reside only on /dev/disk and /dev/rdisk.
cDSFs do not support disk partitions. Disk partitions can be addressed by a device file using
the agile addressing scheme, but not by a cDSF.
For the new cluster setup, cDSF can be used for SLVM and Raw disks/LUNs. To migrate the existing
cluster/package to use cDSF, there will be a downtime associated with it.
For more information on cDSF and LVM commands, refer to the latest version of the Managing
Serviceguard manual.
Native Multipathing, Veritas DMP, and Related Features
The HP-UX 11i v3 I/O subsystem provides multipathing and load balancing by default. This is
often referred to as native multipathing. When CVM is installed on HP-UX 11i v3, DMP is the only
supported multipathing solution, and is enabled by default.
For more information about multipathing in HP-UX 11i v3, see the white paper HP-UX 11i v3 Native
Multi-Pathing for Mass Storage, and the HP-UX System Administrator's Guide: Logical Volume
