Serviceguard Extension for RAC Version A.11.18 Release Notes, 5th Edition, October 2008
NOTE: For the most up-to-date compatibility information, see the
Serviceguard/SGeRAC/SMS/Serviceguard Mgr Plug-in Compatibility and Feature Matrix at
http://docs.hp.com -> High Availability -> Serviceguard -> Support Matrixes
Support for the SGeRAC Toolkit
The SGeRAC Toolkit provides documentation and scripts to simplify the integration of SGeRAC
and Oracle 10g release 2 (or later) RAC stack. It also manages the dependency between Oracle
Clusterware and Oracle RAC instances with a full range of storage management options supported
in the Serviceguard and SGeRAC environment.
The framework provided by the SGeRAC toolkit is unique in the high level of multi-vendor
(Oracle, Symantec, HP) and multi-storage platform (CFS, SLVM, CVM, ASM over SLVM)
integration it offers.
SGeRAC toolkit uses the multi-node package and simple package dependency features integrated
with HP Serviceguard and SGeRAC version A.11.18, which provides a uniform, easy-to-manage
and intuitive method to coordinate the operations of the SGeRAC and Oracle Clusterware
combined software stack. The toolkit is supported across the full range of storage management
options supported by SGeRAC: CFS, SLVM, CVM and ASM (over SLVM). For software download
and product information, refer to the following:
• Use of Serviceguard Extension for RAC Toolkit with Oracle RAC 10g Release 2 or later white paper
located at http://docs.hp.com -> High Availability -> Serviceguard Extension for Real
Application Clusters -> White Papers.
• README file that accompanies the SGeRAC Toolkit. To view go to /opt/cmcluster/
SGeRAC/toolkit/README after the installation.
• For software download information on the SGeRAC Toolkit, go to
http://software.hp.com.
NOTE: Modular packages are not yet supported in the SGeRAC Toolkit.
SGeRAC Toolkit Maintenance Mode
This feature allows you to perform an Oracle Clusterware and RAC database instance Maintenance
job while Clusterware Multi-Node Package (OC MNP) and RAC database instance Multi-Node
packages (RAC MNP) are running in a cluster.
In order to enable this feature MAINTENANCE_FLAG should be set to “yes” and oc.debug and/or
rac.debug file needs to be created under respective Multi Node Package working directories.
For more detailed information, see the SGeRAC Toolkit README file located in the /opt/
cmcluster/SGeRAC/toolkit directory.
GMS Authorization
SGeRAC introduces a new Group Membership Service (GMS) authorization feature in version
A.11.18, which allows only the listed users to access the GMS. By default this feature is disabled,
to enable uncomment the variable GMS_USER[0] and add as many as users you need.
Use the following steps to enable the GMS authorization:
If Oracle RAC is already installed:
1. If Oracle RAC database instance and Oracle Clusterware are running, shut them down on
all nodes.
2. Halt the Serviceguard cluster.
3. Edit /etc/opt/nmapi/nmutils.conf to add all Oracle users on all nodes.
GMS_USER[0]=<oracle1>
GMS_USER[1]=<oracle2>
