Sample Configuration with HP Serviceguard Extension for RAG and Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g release 2 using Cluster File System

3
Introduction
This document discusses the various aspects of planning and implementing an Oracle Real
Application Clusters 11g release 2 (RAC 11g R2) solution on HP-UX 11i v3 with HP Serviceguard
Extension for RAC version A.11.19 (SGeRAC A.11.19). This document also presents a sample
configuration for RAC 11g R2 with SGeRAC A.11.19 and Cluster File System (CFS) 5.0.1 with
HP Serviceguard Storage Management Suite A.03.00 (SG SMS A.03.00).
This document provides step-by-step installation instructions for creating a SGeRAC cluster, for
creating shared storage using CFS, for installing Oracle Clusterware (OC) and RAC, for creating a
demo database, and for creating Serviceguard (SG) packages to synchronize start and stop of the
complete solution stack.
Audience
This white paper is targeted to IT professionals who are interested in planning and implementing
SGeRAC and Oracle RAC 11gR2 clusters.
To benefit fully from this white paper, you should be familiar with Serviceguard, SGeRAC A.11.19,
Oracle RAC 11g R2 software, Veritas Cluster Volume Manager (CVM) 5.0.1 by Symantec, Veritas
Cluster File System (CFS) 5.0.1 by Symantec, and HP-UX 11i v3.

APA Auto port aggregationprovides bonding of multiple networking interface cards where traffic is
distributed to all interface cards.
APA LAN
Monitor
Auto port aggregation LAN Monitor (mode)provides high availability by bonding a primary and a
standby interface card. Traffic is not distributed.
ASM Automatic storage management
CFS Cluster File Systemallows multi-system shared access to a common file system.
CRS Cluster Ready Services
CSS Cluster Synchronization Servicea component of Oracle Clusterware that maintains Oracle cluster
membership and a heartbeat
CSS-HB Cluster Synchronization Service heartbeat (traffic)
CVM Cluster Volume Manager—allows multi-system shared access to volumes

provides group membership notification and process monitoring facility to monitor group status
HA High availabilityconfigurations that are resilient to single-point-of-failurecaused failure
HAOE High availability operating environment
IMR Instance membership recovery
JBOD Just a bunch of disksa single disk, or a collection of disks, in disk enclosures that do not provide RAID
capability for HA
LLT Low Latency Transportprovides kernel-to-kernel communication at the link level, and monitors network
connections for Veritas CFS 4.1/5.0/5.0.1 and CVM 4.1/5.0/5.0.1; LLT distributes Veritas traffic
across network connections and maintains the Veritas heartbeat
LVM Logical Volume Manager
