Sample Configuration with HP Serviceguard Extension for RAG and Oracle Real Application Clusters 11g release 2 using Cluster File System

Figure 2 shows a configuration that addresses the possibility that heavy RAC-DB-IC traffic may affect
SG-HB, illustrating one way to overcome the heavy RAC-DB-IC traffic affecting the SG-HB. This
configuration uses two SG-HB networks. With multiple SG-HB networks, SG
MEMBER_TIMEOUT can be
set as short as the systems allow, enabling faster cluster reformation. The subnet for the CSS-HB and
RAC-DB-IC has redundancy with the primary and standby adapters and switches that are configured.
If the primary (LAN1) fails, SG performs a local LAN failover to the standby (LAN2). If a node fails,
SG detects the failure from the loss of the SG-HB.
If both the primary (LAN1) and the standby (LAN2) fail, SG logs the failure but will not take action
unless SG packages with monitored subnets are configured to take action. The advantage of SG
taking action on a monitored subnet is that the failure detection can be faster than the CSS-HB
timeout, which means recovery will be quicker. A separate package can be configured to monitor
the CSS-HB subnet using cluster interconnect subnet monitoring with
node_fail_fast_enabled set to
YES. SG will monitor the CSS-HB subnet through this package and fail the node upon failure of the
CSS-HB subnet. If this package is being configured, the SG package that is configured for OC should
have the
same_node up dependency on it. If this package is configured with the name
CI-PACKAGE, then the SG package configured for OC should have the following dependency:
dependency_name CI-PACKAGE-DEP
dependency_condition CI-PACKAGE=up
dependency_location same_node
If there are no SG packages configured to take action, a CSS-HB timeout occurs, whereupon CSS
goes through reconfiguration and reboots the node that is not part of the CSS cluster membership.
When the node reboots, SG will evict that node and reform the cluster with the new membership.
