Configuring multiple APPS tier nodes with multiple OLTP and batch processing services
Figure 5 Configuring multiple APPS tier nodes with multiple OLTP and batch processing services
Figure 5 (page 16) shows the cluster where multiple EBS APPS tier nodes are configured.
ECMT EBS DB Tier package is configured to run on Node1. If there is any failure in any of the
EBS DB Tier process, the package is configured to failover to Node2.
EBS APPS Tier services are split as OLTP Processing and Batch processing services. They are
configured to run in different packages. Figure 5 (page 16) shows two instances of OLTP processes
and two instances of Batch processes configured to balance the load. OLTP_APPSPackage1 on
Node3 and OLTP_APPSpackage2 on Node5 are configured to run OLTP processes.
BS_APPSpackage1 on Node2 and BS_APPSpackage2 on Node4 are configured to run Batch
processing services. The alternative node for BS_APPSpackage1 and BS_APPSpackage2 is Node3
and Node5 respectively. The alternative node for OLTP_APPSPackage1 and OLTP_APPSPackage2
is Node2 and Node4 respectively.
Batch processing package cannot be configured to fail over to another node that already has a
Batch processing package running.
These Multiple instances of EBS APPS Tier services require an external load balancer to balance
the load and user requests. Multiple Instances of EBS APPS Tier services use a shared disk for
writing all EBS APPS Tier related data. If this shared disk encounters a failure, none of the EBS
APPS Tier instances are able to access the disk and a complete application failure might occur.
To avoid the single point of failure, HA NFS file system can be used. For more information see,
http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs-> HP Serviceguard NFS Toolkit.
If there is a failure in any one of the EBS APPS Tier service, the package configured for that particular
service will be failed over to the configured alternative node. The load balancer will route and
process user requests to the existing live instance on another node.
For the example the package configuration in Figure 5 (page 16), has the following attributes
enabled for the respective packages.
For APPSpackage1 and APPSpackage3, Attributes like ROOT_SERVICES, WEB_ENTRY_POINT,
and WEB_APPLICATION in the package configuration must be set to “yes”. For APPS Package2
and APPSpackage4, BATCH_PROCESSING attribute alone must be set to “yes”.
In a multiple instance configuration of EBS APPS Tier, external load balancer IP must be configured
as web entry point for the EBS APPS Tier.
