9 Using HP Serviceguard Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS in
an HP Serviceguard Cluster
Overview
The HP Serviceguard Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS integrates and runs EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus
Advanced Server 9.0 in the Serviceguard environment. To work with this toolkit, you must be
familiar with Serviceguard and the EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server 9.0, including
their installation, configuration, and execution.
This toolkit consists of a set of shell scripts for starting, monitoring, and stopping the EnterpriseDB
Postgres Plus Advanced Server. It works with the Serviceguard master control script in the modular
packages. Each EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server instance is configured in its own
Serviceguard package.
Advantages
When Enterprise Database (EDB) is deployed in a Serviceguard cluster using the HP Serviceguard
Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS, it has the following advantages:
• Easy integration of EnterpriseDB Postgres Plus Advanced Server in a Serviceguard Highly
Available environment.
• Provides high availability for the EnterpriseDB Plus Advanced Server.
• HP Serviceguard includes built-in monitoring capabilities to check the system resources like
network, volume groups, and files systems. It also initiates a failover, in the instance of the
failure of these system resources.
• You can configure the packages using Serviceguard Manager. For more information, see
http://www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs → HP Serviceguard Manager.
Dependencies
HP Serviceguard Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS requires the ECMT version B.07.00.01.
Prerequisite
The prerequisites for HP Serviceguard Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS are:
• Serviceguard A.11.19 or A.11.20 must be installed on all the cluster nodes and the cluster
must be configured.
• ECMT version B.07.00.01 must be installed on all the cluster nodes planning to run HP
Serviceguard Toolkit for EnterpriseDB PPAS.
• Shared storage must be connected to all the cluster nodes.
• Public and private network connections must be configured.
