Rehearsing recovery in the Three Data Center Disaster

Recovery Solution (3DC DR Solution)

Three Data Center Disaster Recovery Solution (3DC DR Solution) is a fully redundant disaster recovery

solution that integrates HP Serviceguard, HP Metrocluster with Continuous Access for P9000 and XP,

HP Continentalclusters, and the HP StorageWorks P9000 or XP 3DC Data Replication. In a 3DC DR

solution, Continentalclusters is configured with Metrocluster as a primary cluster and the Serviceguard

cluster at the third site as a recovery cluster. The procedure used to configure and perform DR

rehearsal in a 3DC environment is similar to that of a regular Continentalclusters environment.

This section describes how to configure and perform DR rehearsal in a 3DC environment.

Note: The DR rehearsal feature is supported only with modular packages in a 3DC DR Solution.

Configuring rehearsal for the recovery group in a 3DC DR Solution

Complete the following procedures to configure rehearsal for the recovery group in a 3DC

DR Solution:

Set up the file system for Continentalclusters state directory

Follow the steps specified in the section “

Set up filesystem for the Continentalclusters state directory to see

how to set up the Continentalclusters state directory file system.

”

Configure the monitor package to mount the file system from the shared disk

Follow the steps in “

Configure the monitor package with the shared disk” to configure the monitor package

for the rehearsal feature.

Configure the rehearsal package

As in regular Continentalclusters rehearsal procedure, configure the rehearsal package in the

recovery cluster and specify it as part of the recovery group definition. The rehearsal package is

identical to the recovery package and can be effectively used in place of the recovery package to

verify the environment. This rehearsal package bundles the same application and uses the same

storage devices as the recovery package.

You must configure the rehearsal package with the same volume group and file system mount points

as that of the recovery package. The application setup and configuration used for the recovery

package are also used for the rehearsal package. Similar to all other Continentalclusters packages,

the AUTO_RUN parameter for the rehearsal package must be set to NO.

During a DR rehearsal process, Continentalclusters starts the rehearsal package and validates

the recovery cluster environment. However, to stop clients from using the recovery package

application instance, it is necessary that the client access network IP address be different for the

rehearsal package.

The rehearsal packages normally use all the modules that are used to create the recovery package in

3DC environment, but without 3DC recovery module dts/recovery_xpca3dc.
