1 Continentalclusters Version A.08.00 Release Notes Announcements Continentalclusters is a Hewlett-Packard high availability solution that provides disaster tolerant clustering with no distance limitation. Version A.08.00 of Continentalclusters contains enhancements and is released on HP-UX 11i v2 and HP-UX 11i v3 with the following product number: T2346BA - license, media, and documentation The Continentalclusters version A.04.
The following Continentalclusters features are not supported in a pre-integrated data replication solution using HP 3PAR Remote Copy: • Continentalclusters Disaster Recovery Rehearsal • Support for Oracle RAC • Support for complex workloads configured using SADTA • Support for SLVM/CVM/CFS All the limitations that are applicable to Metrocluster with 3PAR Remote Copy are also applicable to a Continentalclusters environment using 3PAR Remote Copy replication.
Support for Three Links and Delta Resync functionality in a 3DC DR Solution With the introduction of the following patches, the HP StorageWorks 3DC replication with Three Links and Delta Resync functionality is supported in a 3DC DR Solution: • Continentalclusters A.08.00 April 2011 patches (PHSS_41657 on 11i v2 and PHSS_41658 on 11i v3) • Metrocluster with Continuous Access for P9000 and XP A.11.
Support for Data Replication Storage Failover Preview in a 3DC DR Solution With the introduction of the following patches, the cmdrprev command is supported in a 3DC DR Solution: • Continentalclusters A.08.00 April 2011 patches (PHSS_41657 on 11i v2 and PHSS_41658 on 11i v3) • Metrocluster with Continuous Access for P9000 and XP A.11.00 April 2011 patches (PHSS_41663 on 11i v2 and PHSS_41664 on 11i v3) • Metrocluster Data Replication Enabler Toolkit A.10.
• “Support for Complex Workloads using Site Aware Disaster Tolerant Architecture (SADTA)” (page 10) • “Support for Oracle RAC ASM using SADTA” (page 11) • “Support for Oracle 11gR2 as Single Instance and as RAC” (page 11) • “Support for Configuring Package Dependencies for Failover Recovery Packages” (page 11) • “Support for HPVM Packages in Continentalclusters” (page 11) Continentalclusters Product Features The Continentalclusters product has the following basic features: • Continentalclusters w
must specify a password for this user on all nodes in the primary and recovery clusters. When a node is no longer part of Continentalclusters configuration, remove this user from the node. • Continentalclusters Configuration Package Continentalclusters version A.08.00 stores configuration information in a special package on the primary and recovery clusters.
For more information on configuring complex workloads using SADTA with Continentalclusters, see chapter 2 of the Designing Disaster Recovery HA Clusters using Metrocluster and Continentalclusters available at: www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs. Support for Oracle RAC ASM using SADTA Starting with Continentalclusters version A.08.00, Oracle RAC database using Automatic Storage Management (ASM) can be configured in Continentalclusters using Site Aware Disaster Tolerant Architecture (SADTA).
Support for Serviceguard Features The following Serviceguard features are not supported in version A.08.00.
HP Software Requirements • Serviceguard version A.11.19 or A.11.20 • Serviceguard Extension for RAC version A.11.19 or A.11.20 for configuring Oracle RAC in Continentalclusters. When using CVM, the CVM activation must be done through the CVM Disk group MNP and the application package must be dependent on all its corresponding CVM Disk Group MNPs. The previous method of configuring CVM disk groups in the application package control script is not supported.
replication with the EMC Symmetrix, install the EMC Symmetrix SymCLI software on all the nodes. When using physical data replication with the EVA series, install HP StorageWorks Continuous Access EVA related software on all the nodes. Upgrading from Earlier Versions You can upgrade to Continentalclusters Version A.08.00 from version A.06.xx versions. For versions prior to A.06.xx, you must first upgrade to Version A.06.00, and then upgrade to Version A.08.00.
You must also see the following documents when using Continentalclusters: • Managing Serviceguard. This manual describes all basic cluster configuration and administration tasks. Depending on the Serviceguard version in your environment, see the appropriate version of this manual. The above documents are available on the HP-UX documentation web site at: www.hp.com/go/hpux-serviceguard-docs.

NOTE: Patches can be superseded or withdrawn at any time. Be sure to check the status of any patch before downloading it. For an updated list of patches, see Hewlett Packard Support Center www.hp.com/go/hpsc . Fixes Fixes for A.08.00 in the March 2013 Release • QXCR1001256955 The Continentalclusters monitoring daemon cmclsentryd may create multiple defunct processes on the node where the ccmonpkg package is running.
Fixes for A.08.00 in the April 2011 Release • QXCR1001112704 The cmapplyconcl command fails when applied with a configuration that has no recovery group information. • QXCR1001110007 The Continentalclusters monitoring daemon cmclsentryd core dumps when trying to write to the Alert or Alarm log file. • QXCR1001113722 The Continentalclusters monitoring daemon sets improper permissions to the internal log files.
The monitor package fails over to the other node in the recovery cluster, but the recovery package does not failover. This error is seen only when a rehearsal package is configured in a recovery group. • What is the workaround? Before executing cmhaltnode command, move the monitor package (ccmonpkg) to another node in the recovery cluster. To recover from the above error, ensure that node switching and global switching for the recovery package are enabled by using cmmodpkg -e command.
Continentalclusters does not support OpenSSH • What is the problem? Continentalclusters does not get installed when HP-UX Secure Shell is not installed. Hence, Continentalclusters cannot be used on any supported version of OpenSSH. • What is the workaround? Complete the following steps: 1. If HP-UX Secure Shell is not installed, then install HP-UX SecureShell version greater than A.04.50.021. 2. Install Continentalclusters version A.08.00. 3.
