Release Notes HP StorageWorks Secure Path 3.0F Service Pack 4 for HP-UX 11i v1.0 and 11i v2.0 (5697-8002, March 2009)
Secure Path for Active-Active disk arrays with LVM PVLINKS
Secure Path takes control of the device configured under LVM with PVLINKS for alternate paths, and
overrides LVM PVLINKS to provide automatic I/O path failover and failback functionality. LVM PVLINKS
provides an alternate path for the device during system reboot.
HP recommendations
HP recommends that you specify the physical volume paths while configuring LVM with PVLINKS and
using LVM PVLINKS with Secure Path for Active-Active disk arrays. The alternate physical paths are
a combination of paths that emerge from different HBAs, pass through different switches, and map
to different controller ports on the disk array.
In this configuration:
• Secure Path provides high availability and load balancing to the volume group when the system
is up and running.
• LVM PVLINKS provides high availability if the LVM primary path fails during system boot.
The following example shows the list of devices managed by Secure Path:
# autopath discover
